Inspired by sustainability and the natural world, I chose to title my collection “Biophilia.” Biophilia can be defined as the hypothetical human tendency to seek connections with nature and other forms of life. In my futuristic world, this world is not a hypothetical. After humans wiped the world of its natural resources and destroyed humanity, a new generation has emerged from the ashes. After seeing what mankind has done to their home, this new generation has discovered their innate love for all living forms. As nature regrows itself into the desolate earth, humans work to be a part of the natural world. My collection emphasizes natural materials, such as zero-waste knits and naturally dyed linens. In regard to silhouettes, I wanted the pieces to mimic the natural world to the best of my ability. Lastly, I wanted this collection to have a softness and calmness that reflects the loving and positive relationship between humans and nature. With that, I present to you “Biophilia.”
